ANNIE LAUREN MARTIN HIGHT (05-16-2008)
DUBLIN – Annie Lauren Martin Hight, 78, of 336 Roseberry Lane, Apartment 1, Dublin, Va. died Tuesday night, May 13, 2008, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Virginia on March 11, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Charles Martin and Laury Clyburn Martin.
Surviving are: daughters, Brenda Clyburn, Wanda Smith; son, Eddie Clyburn; sister, Magoline Sutphin; brothers, Floyd Clyburn, Luther Clyburn; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Thornspring Cemetery. Visiting will be Thursday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

YVONNE “E.B.” JACKSON HAMBLIN (05-16-2008)
DUBLIN — Yvonne “E.B.” Jackson Hamblin, age 71, of Little Creek Highway, Dublin, VA, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 12, 2008, at the home of her special niece with whom she had made her home for the last five months.
She was born July 12, 1936 in Little Creek, daughter of the late Govan Thedmer and Martha Davis Hamblin.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Carlos Moore Hamblin. Miss Hamblin was a member of Davis United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Leroy Matthew Hamblin of Pocahontas, VA; special niece and caregiver, Vanessa Edwards and husband Terry of Draper; three sisters, Sylvia Branson and Clyde E. of Pulaski, Barbara Gray and Edward of Pulaski, Polly G. Hamblin of Little Creek; one brother, Judas R. Hamblin and Bernice of Pulaski; special friend, Vicki Slaughter. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Davis United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Grooten officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Hidden Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the home of Vanessa and Terry Edwards at any time.

THOMAS HAYMON SWECKER (05-16-2008)
BARREN SPRINGS - Thomas Haymon Swecker, age 81, of Barren Springs, VA went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 14, 2008.
He was born February 28, 1927 in Wythe County, son of the late Haymon and Ada Bond Swecker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dondee Stoots Swecker; four sisters, Opal Friend, Ila Stilwell, Margaret Burnett and Shirley Dicker; three brothers, Carlos Swecker, Harold Swecker and Ralph Swecker.
Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
He is survived by one daughter, Beverly Sue Dicker of Barren Springs, VA; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas E. and Carolyn Swecker of Dacula, GA; three sisters, Gladys Nester of Gum Springs, VA, Julia Semones of Max Meadows, VA, Millie Mitchem of Galax, VA; two brothers, Jim Swecker of Vinton, VA, Muncy Swecker of Pulaski, VA; four granddaughters and spouses, Christy and Joey Lowe, Rhonda and Walter Hinkley, Jennifer and Walid Abdelwahed, Holly and Danny Duncan; eight great grandchildren, seven honored step grandchildren and seventeen step great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 11:00 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harry Gunther officiating.
Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Grover King Post #1115 VFW will conduct graveside military rites.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Dora Highway Baptist Church, Pulaski, VA.

SYDNEY TAYLOR BLACK (05-15-2008)
BRISTOL, TN - Sydney Taylor Black, age 6 of Bristol, TN, died Friday May 9, 2008. She was born May 1, 2002 in Fairfax, VA. She was preceded in death by two Great-grandfather’s, John T. Black, and Sidney Cohen. She is survived by her father, Timothy Randall Black of Dumphries, VA: Grandparents, Jack and Sharon Black of Dublin: Great-grandmothers, Delmer K. Black and Charlotte Turman both of Pulaski, and Opal Brewster of War, WVa: a special Auntie, Missy Custer and her husband Jeff and their daughter Ashley of Dumphries, VA. Great-uncles, Jerry Black of Pulaski, and David Black of Wilmington, NC, Richard Allen and his wife Marina and their son Lamont Allen, along with his children, Alexis and Alysia Allen of Reno, NV.
Funeral services will be held Friday May 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons. Interment will be private in Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski.
Visiting will be anytime Thursday after 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

DR. ANTHONY WILLIAM ANNESKI (05-14-2008)
PULASKI – Dr. Anthony William Anneski, retired optometrist of 1016 Morehead Lane, Pulaski passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008 in the Pulaski Community Hospital, Pulaski, VA. He was 84 years old.
Anthony was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was born Oct. 20, 1923 in Camden, NJ and was the son of the late Anthony Anneski and Julia Anneski Bolker. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Peter J. Anneski and Stanley Anneski of NJ.
Surviving are: his wife, Jean Merricks Anneski, Pulaski; son, Anthony William Anneski, Jr., Atlanta, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Dr. Cynthia Jean Anneski & Russell O’Connor, Gilbert, AZ; grandsons, Scott Alexander O’Connor, Gilbert, AZ, Viktor Anneski O’Connor, Gilbert, AZ.
Dr. Anneski practiced optometry for over 40 years. He graduated from Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, TN. He was also a graduate of Emory & Henry College, received his Masters Degree in Education from Virginia Tech. He did graduate work in Children’s Vision at Gesell Institute of Child Development, New Haven, CT.
He was a Fellow of the Virginia Academy of Optometry, having served as Secretary, Vice-President and President. A Fellow of the American College of Optometric Physicians, serving on the Board of Directors and as President; Past Representative for Pulaski County to the New River Valley Mental Health and Mental Retardation Service Board, serving two terms as Chairman. He was Past President and Lifetime Member of the Dublin Lions Club and Past Chairman of the Town of Pulaski Planning Commission.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 442nd Aircraft Carrier Division in France and Germany.
He traveled to the Dominican Republic with the Christian Medical Mission Group of Illinois to examine eyes and fit glasses for the citizens there. He also went to a Leprosy Community to help serve those afflicted individuals.
Dr. Anneski was a very dedicated and active citizen of his hometown, Pulaski.
He truly believed that God’s most precious gift was SIGHT.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at 7 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, with Rev. Hugh Kilgore and Rev. Wallis Brown officiating.
There will be a visitation Wednesday at the church where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service hour.
Entombment will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Altavista Memorial Park Mausoleum.
There will be military graveside rites.

DONNA JEAN COLLINS QUESENBERRY (05-14-2008)
RADFORD – Donna Jean Collins Quesenberry, 57, of Radford, VA died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at her home. She was born in Welch, WV on April 3, 1951 and was the daughter of the late Dee Bee Collins and Mary Hazel Jones Collins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy Roy Quesenberry and by brothers Bob of WV, Jack of WV, Charles of NC and Ricky Collins of WV.
Surviving are: son, Billy Roy Quesenberry II, Roanoke, VA; step-daughter, Penny South, Arcadia, FL; brothers, Don Collins, VA, Michael Collins, VA, Larry Collins, IN; sisters, Deann Bryant, VA, Edra Owens, VA; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with Rev. Don Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour. CHARLES GRAHAM LAWSON (05-14-2008)
PULASKI - Charles Graham Lawson, age 79 of Pulaski, died Monday morning May 12, 2008 in Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 7, 1928 in Draper, and was the son of the late Emma Kidd Lawson and Coy Lee Lawson. He was a faithful, and active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pulaski where he served as a former property department chair, a former deacon, a member of the Bishop/Rauhof Sunday School Class, and beginning in 2003, he served on the Pastoral Relations Committee, and sang in the Men’s Choir. According to some members, Graham made the best deviled eggs served during fellowship meals. He was also a veteran having proudly served in the U.S. Army, and retired as a self employed contractor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helga Drexel Lawson. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Lawson Hix and her husband Wayne Edward Hix of Dublin. Also survived by a very special friend, Nancy Voroyka of Dublin, and a special grand-dog, Chloe Caroline, and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday May 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons with the Rev. Randy Winn and the Rev. Mike Blouse officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. RUTH HELEN SMITH BOWMAN (05-13-2008)
ASHLAND, VA. - Ruth Helen Smith Bowman, 83, of Ashland, passed away  on Saturday, May 10, 2008.  She was preceded in death by her husbands Sherman East and Grover Bowman, sons Jerry East and Bryce Bowman, and grandson Todd Givens.  She is survived by her daughters Linda Givens (Bobby) and Janet Sola (Vincent), son James Bowman (Tanna), as well as grandchildren Terry Givens (Lisa), Lynne Anderson (Troy), Angela Nelson, Tori Hopkins (Louis), Kimberly Burden (Lonnie), Steven Mercer (Jennifer), and Amanda Bowman (Donna).
She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her sister Gertrude Shelton, and many nieces and nephews, as well as many other loving family and friends.  She had a passion for poetry and quilt-making; however, her true passion was her family.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Monday, May 12 at Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Highway, Ashland, VA where funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 13.  Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery.

MARVIN ALEXANDER BROWN (05-12-2008)
DUBLIN – Marvin Alexander Brown, 90, of 133 Zeigler Avenue, Dublin, VA died Thursday morning, May 8, 2008, at his home. He was born in Bane, VA (Giles Co.) on Sept. 6, 1917 and was the son of the late Robert Hix Brown and Osha Wells Brown. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Brown and by a sister. He was a retired employee of the Dublin Post Office and he was a veteran having served during World War II in the United States Army. Mr. Brown was a member of the Dublin Church of God.
Surviving are: his wife, Edna Haga Brown, Dublin; daughters & son-in-law, Audrey & Rev. James Hopkins, Dublin, Deborah Brown, Dublin; son, Robert Brown, Dublin; sisters & brother-in-law, Patsy & Rod Mitchem, Dublin, Opal Johnston, Raleigh, N.C., Ruby McMillan, Raleigh, N.C.
There will be a graveside service Saturday, May 10, at 12 noon at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with Rev. Michael Collins, Rev. James Hopkins and Rev. Danny McGlothlin officiating.
The Radford VFW will be conducting the military graveside rites.
Visiting will be Friday evening from Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

HERMAN S. MCMAHAN (05-12-2008)
DUBLIN — Herman S. McMahan, 77, died Friday, May 9, 2008, in the Highland Ridge Rehab Center, Dublin. Born June 2, 1930, in Knoxville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Redmond D. and Vergie Mannis McMahan. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the Victory Assembly of God, Bonner Springs, KS.
Surviving are: daughters and husbands, Robin and Robert LeBarre, Draper; Alesia and Arthur Waltrip, Odenville, AL.; Martha Pearson, Alexander City, AL; sons and wives, Mark and Gina McMahan, Bonner Springs, KS.; Steven and Vickie McMahan, Tennessee; Scott McMahan, South Carolina; sister, Mary Sue Propper, Knoxville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, at 3 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Whitener officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

TIMMY RAY MARTIN (05-10-2008)
DRAPER - Timmy Ray Martin, age 43 of Hardy and formerly of Draper passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem after a short battle with cancer.
Born March 12, 1965 in Radford, he is the son of Charles “Chuck” Luther Martin and Norma Jean Martin.
He was the owner and operator of Vision Auto Glass, Hardy, Virginia for 10 years. He was a graduate of Pulaski County High School.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Surviving are: his parents, Chuck & Norma Jean Martin, Draper; sister and brother-in-law, Tina K & Robbie Bourne, Radford; special nephews, Joshua and Jacob Bourne, Radford; special friend, Sandy Stover, Hardy, VA.
Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Max Creek Baptist Church, Pulaski with the Pastor Mike Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski.
