Hiwassee man killed in shooting

A 23-year-old Hiwassee man is dead following a shooting off Duncan Hill Lane Tuesday afternoon.

Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis declined to identify the shooting victim and said only limited details of the incident are being released pending further investigation of the situation.
According to the sheriff, police received two calls – just minutes apart – around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday of altercations at a residence off Duncan Hill Lane. He said the first call concerned an altercation between non-family members and the second call was of a domestic altercation the led to a shooting at the residence.
Police and rescue personnel responding to the scene found a 23-year-old male who had been shot with a handgun. Rescue workers started working on the victim at the scene, then transported him to Pulaski Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Davis said.
The sheriff declined to release an identity or age of the shooter. He said authorities are working with Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Fleenor on the investigation and any charges that may be filed.
