The façade on one of the vacant buildings on Main Street in Pulaski gave way late Friday, forcing town crews to demolish a portion of the structure.Building Inspector Tom Compton said the town received a report around 10 p.m. Friday that bricks were falling onto the sidewalk from the building, which is directly across from Pulaski County Courthouse.
Pulaski Fire Department responded to the scene and secured the site.
Compton said the building’s owner is Richard Allen.
According to Mayor Jeff Worrell, the front of the building was leaning toward the street, so the town had to take action to prevent it from posing a hazard to citizens.
Heavy equipment was brought in to demolish the front section of the building for public safety.
Worrell said the building will be treated the same as any condemned building in the town. If the owner does not take care of the rest of the demolition and cleanup, the town will take care of it and place a lien on the property.
Fire Marshal Chip Hutchinson said the roof of the building already was rotten. With this winter’s heavy snow accumulations and then Friday night’s flooding downpours, the roof finally caved in, causing the front wall to become unstable.
