Middle school ready for emergency

If an emergency situation strikes, Pulaski Middle School will be ready thanks to the help of a Pulaski store and two emergency services organizations.

According to Pulaski Fire Marshal Chip Hutchinson, Pulaski Police Department School Resource Officer Rob Davis recently instructed teachers on how to react and prepare for an emergency involving the school.
As a result of that discussion, the teachers decided to gather items needed to prepare emergency kits for each of their classrooms.
One of the items needed to complete the kits was a good flashlight and batteries.
That is where Hutchinson’s office, Pulaski County Emergency Management Coordinator Bobby Clark and Tractor Supply in Pulaski stepped in to help.
The two governmental agencies combined resources with Tractor Supply to supply the school with enough flashlights and batteries to supply each emergency kit.
Tractor Supply Manager Heather Steel said the company supports community involvement in emergency preparedness and was proud to be part of the project.
Davis will distribute the flashlights to the teachers.
The Fire Marshal’s Office and the Emergency Management Department encourage all Pulaski County residents to follow the middle school’s lead and prepare their own emergency kit. Some of the items that should be placed in the kit include:
n A three-day supply of food and water for every person the kit will be serving.
n A battery operated radio with fresh batteries. A weather service radio is an excellent choice for the kits.
n A family emergency plan with an out of town friend or relative as a contact point and a meeting place in case you or your family can’t get back home.
n Blankets and warm clothing.
n A first aid kit and any medications needed by persons served by the kit.
n Supplies for special needs persons in the family or group.
Questions about emergency preparedness may be directed to Clark at 980-7716 or Hutchinson at 994-8664.
