Train depot completion eyed next fall

If Mother Nature cooperates, Pulaski may have the old depot back in operation by this time next year.

According to Town Manager John Hawley, the estimated completion date under the contract is Oct. 25, 2010. Contractors already have begun work on the station, which was gutted by fire in November 2008.
Mayor Jeff Worrell said both the architect, David Gall Associates out of North Carolina, and the contracting firm, South End Construction of Roanoke, “seem genuinely excited about this project.”
The total cost of the contract, which was executed Oct. 16, ended up at $1,146,683, including the cost of the sprinkler system. Hawley noted town staff is continuing to contest the insurance company’s determination that the town has to pay for the fire suppression system.
