Virginia Department of Transportation and Fatz Café have joined forces in an effort to help clarify for motorists how to access the restaurant.
For traffic safety reasons, VDOT was asked in September to look at the intersection of Route 100 and Alexander Farm Road to see if something could be done to emphasize that the entrance to Fatz is on Alexander Farm Road.
Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis said there are “serious safety concerns” in that area because some motorists are ending up on the southbound ramp to Interstate 81 rather than Alexander Farm Road when they are attempting to locate the restaurant entrance. The southbound ramp is a short distance beyond Alexander Farm Road.
In order to avoid getting onto the interstate, Davis said, some motorists are backing down the ramp when they realize they have made a wrong turn.
Monday, VDOT Resident Engineer David Clarke said the transportation department is working with officials at the restaurant to make it clearer where to turn to access the business.
Last month, Huber suggested the problem might be solved by an off premises sign for the cafe placed at the entrance to Alexander Farm Road.
