Wenrich to seek 3rd term on School Board

PULASKI — Dr. John Wenrich, currently representing the Ingles District on the Pulaski County School Board, has announced his desire to seek a third term representing the citizens of Pulaski County.

Dr. Wenrich is completing his 8th year on the Pulaski County School Board. He was first elected in 1999, and re-elected for a second term in 2003. He serves as the Vice Chairman of the School Board. He is also Vice Chairman of the Board for the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School.
“We have made significant accomplishments over the last few years and I would like to work to continue the progress we have made for the children, our teachers, staff and for the citizens of Pulaski County,” Wenrich commented when asked why he is seeking a third term.

“In this day and age, everyone looks for information online. I hope to be able to provide the citizens with as much information as they need on the school system. I also will be sending out emails to those interested in hearing from me on a regular basis,” he said.
Dr. Wenrich is active in the community serving as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 151 in Snowville as well as being a member of the New River District Committee — Blue Ridge Mountains Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
While not doing School Board related work, Dr. Wenrich serves as the Associate Director for the Institute for Connecting Science Research to the Classroom located at Virginia Tech. In that position, he works on integrating technology into the classrooms of Virginia schools and in other states. He also coordinates a number of professional conferences dealing with emerging educational applications.
Prior to working at Virginia Tech, Dr. Wenrich was a classroom teacher with experience at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Dr. Wenrich has two children that have gone through the Pulaski County school system. His daughter, Shara, graduated in 2000 and is currently a third grade teacher in Mount Holly, N.C.
His son, JJ, graduates in 2007, and plans to attend college in the Fall. Cindy, Dr. Wenrich's wife of 32 years, is the Itinerant Vision Specialist for Pulaski County, Giles County and Radford City Schools.
