Friends of the Pulaski County Library will hold a book sale on Friday, July 3, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 4, from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

2009 4-H All Star Summer Conference
We hope you will join us in the GREAT SOUTHWEST for an amazing adventure for 4-H All Stars. The 2009 Summer Conference will be held from Friday, July 17th to Sunday, July 19th. The conference location will be at the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center in Abingdon, Virginia. Enjoy three days of great fun in beautiful historic Abingdon while seeing old friends and making new ones for a lifetime. Stilwell Family Reunion

Altered Books
Turn an ordinary book into something extraordinary at the Radford Public Library. Old library books will be turned into art under guidance of art teacher Whitney Whitacre. On a side note, the library regularly lets old, worn-out, outdated and un-popular books go in order to make room for new books. Usually the books are sold at the Lamplighter’s quarterly book sale which raises money, in part, to pay for the summer reading program, but for the Altered Books program they will be given a new life as art. Back to School Program
The Salvation Army of the NRV will be taking applicaions for the Back to School program from July 7th until July 30th at 760 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg. Applications will only be taken Tuesday thru Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon & 1:00 p.m. - 3p.m. All applicants must have a picture ID with current address, identification for each child, such as birth certificate, social security card or school ID. If you do not receive governmen assistance, you may apply with proof of income and expenses. Everyone must bring the year end Report Card for each child or letter from school stating grade level for each child. If you have any questins, please call 540-394-1037.
Meeting
Tuesday, July 7, Regional Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (REMSI), Dublin Town Hall, 11:30 a.m. (Contact: Joe Trigg, 6580 Valley Center Drive, Box 5, Radford, VA 24143, 633-6738). This board meets semi-monthly to make executive decisions relating to the operations of emergency transports and care.

Showcasing Southwest Va
Works by ‘Round the Mountain Artisans. The gallery, open weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., features examples of custom furniture, pottery, jewelry, woodworking, and fiber arts, along with paintings and photography, from some of the region’s leading craftsmen.
The reception will be held Wednesday, July 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The exhibit will remain on display until July 11, 2009.

Called Communication
Pythagoras Lodge #239 A.F.&A.M. 33-4th St. N.W., Pulaski, Va. will hold a called Communication on Thursday, July 9th at 7 p.m. for work on the Fellowcraft Degree. Refreshments will be served afterward. All Fellowcraft and Master Masons are invited to attend.
Committee meeting
Thursday, July 9, Pulaski County Corporate Roundtable Committee, Pulaski Country Club, 11:30 a.m. (Contact: Tammy Safewright, 143 Third Street, NW, Suite 1, Pulaski, VA 24301, 540-980-7705, tsafewright@pulaskicounty.org). This committee is made up of local plant manager’s and business leaders, local government officials and other community service representatives. It offers employers the ability to discuss issues in a roundtable setting with other employers and provides a liaison to available employment services.

New River Valley Chapter 1134 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will hold its next meeting on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. at Bull & Bones Brewhaus & Grill at First & Main Shopping Center, 1470 South Main Street, Blacksburg. The program speaker will be Doug Martin, Director of Benefits Programs, Dept. of Human Resources, Virginia Tech, who will discuss Matriarchs of the Mountains. Spouses and guests are welcome. NARFE membership includes current as well as retired federal employees.

Children’s Watercolor Workshop
Grades K-4th – Friday July 10th and Saturday July 11th 10:00am-12:00pm with snack break.
Students will learn basics of water color techniques, the concept of warm and cool colors, primary and secondary colors, and the process of wax resistance. Using hand-eye coordination the students will draw an abstraction of their hands with crayons, (the wax resistant), then paint using only primary and secondary colors. The second day the students will be more familiar with watercolors and will create a landscape, learning composition and color variety.
Price of Workshop- $6.00 per child per day or $10.00 for both days

July 22 & 23 – Pop Art Acrylic Painting, grades 8th-12th

All decendants of John Wiliam (J.W.) & Alice Viers Boyd will hold their annual reunion: Saturdy, July 11, 2009 at the Hiwassee Picnic Shelter 12 a.m. to ! - eat at 1:00 p.m. Please come and bring a covere dish and drink. All utensils will be provided, games, music, fun for all. See you there!
Praising in the Park

Garden tour
The New River Valley Master Gardeners along with the Friends of the Library host an annual garden tour. Saturday July 11 will bring an opportunity to visit six gardens in the Blacksburg area along with a working pick your own blueberry farm in charming Newport. The fourteenth annual Friendly Garden Tour will continue the tradition of hosting gardens that speak for the times. You will observe various methods used at each garden to tackle the ongoing problems facing gardeners of this day. Each garden will have a Master Gardener floating host available to address questions from the public. Tickets are available on June 1st at the Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Floyd and Shawsville libraries. $12 in advance, $15 day of the tour. Rain or shine.
Dublin High School Class of 1974 Reunion
Dublin High School Class of 1974 will have its 35th year reunion Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Randolph Park in Dublin. The new Dublin High Alumni Picnic Shelter is reserved from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. There is no charge although each person is ask to bring a dish of food to share.
