Calendar policy
Items for the Community Calendar are printed free of charge. We will make every effort to run the item a minimum of two times before the event. Each item should have no more than two contact phone numbers. The Community Calendar is offered as a public service for community and non-profit events.
Written notices may be: delivered to The Southwest Times office at 34 Fifth St. NE in Pulaski; emailed to calendar@southwesttimes.com or mailed to: The Southwest Times, P.O. Dance classes
Fall classes are now forming at Center Stage School of Dance, 44 Fourth Street in Pulaski. The classes are sponsored by the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley. All ages are accepted. Free Community Clothing Closet
Lighthouse Ministries, located at 4959 Old Robinson Tract Road, will hold a Free Community Clothing Closet the last Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the downstairs of the church. For questions, please call Pastor Kathy Newton at 320-8723.
Bible Study

Country Breakfast
There will be a country breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Glenwood United Methodist Church on Wysor Highway in Barren Springs. Serving will begin at 7 a.m. There will be gravy and biscuits, ham biscuits, sausage biscuits and other breakfast goodies.
All You Can East Breakfast
The VFW Post 1184 and Ladies Auxiliary will be having an All You Can Eat pancake, biscuits and gravy breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 4 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Also served will be one 3 oz. piece of sausage or three pieces of bacon, as well as your choice of coffee, milk or juice. Following, there will be 25 cent bingo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries and chili cheese fries. There will be a $5 donation. No alcohol.
Annual Yard and Food Sale

Allisonia Day
Allisonia Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4 on the banks of New River and Claytor Lake at Allisonia where Betty Watson used to live. Ingles Farm tour
Ingles Farm, located at 9 Wilderness Road in Radford, will be open to the public on Sept. 5 and 6 and Oct. 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. More information is available at www.InglesFerry.org. There is no admission charge and children are welcome. To get to Ingles Farm, take exit #105 off of I-81. Go about one mile and the sign for Ingles Farm will be on your left. Follow the directional signs for parking.
Hamblin Reunion
The Hamblin family reunion will be Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at the Hamblin Memorial Picnic Shelter on Spur Branch Road. Potluck lunch will be served at 12 p.m.
Christian Karaoke

Drop site and recycling center closed
The Large Item Drop Site and Recycling Centers located in Dublin (Bagging Plant Road), Fairlawn (Mason Street) and Pulaski (Dora Highway) will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010. The office will also be closed.
Garbage Collection
The Public Service Authority wishes to announce that there will be garbage collection service on Monday, Sept. 6, 2010. All trucks will run as scheduled.

Pulaski County Retired Teachers Association will gather at Shoney's Restaurant in Dublin for meeting and dinner on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. Guest speaker will be Vicki Goad,representing The Feed My Lambs Program of weekend food backpacks for Critzer School. Dinner Theatre
Heritage Church, located on Rte. 100 past the New River Valley Airport in Dublin, proudly presents their Second Annual Dinner Theatre, "Virgil's Family Reunion" on Sept. 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19. Pulaski County High School Class of 1985 will be holding their 25th Reunion on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bissett Park in Radford, Shelter 1. Bring a covered dish. An after Picnic Party will take place at BT's in Radford from 5:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. following the reunion.
Watercolor Painting Class
The Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley will be holding a Watercolor Painting Class on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The class is for grades Pre-K through sixth. Community Fest
The Hiwassee, Snowville and Allisonia communities will be hosting their Second Annual Community Fest on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church located on Max Creed Rd. in Hiwassee. There will be a 65-foot inflatable course, two inflatable moon walks, cotton candy, hot dogs, popcorn, live music, face painting, door prizes, cake walk, games, volleyball and horse shoes. A 150th Year Celebration (1860-2010) will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 at the Salem United Methodist Church, located on Kimberling Road on Route 612 in Bland, Va. Family to Family Education Program
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Virginia is sponsoring the NAMI Family to Family Education Program in Wytheville, Virginia. The Family to Family Education Program is a free 12-week course for family caregivers of persons diagnosed with a serious mental illness. The series of classes will begin on Wednesday evenings starting September 15, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Wytheville. Registration is required by September 8. Class size is limited.
