Juvenile seriously injured in wreck

A juvenile was seriously injured Saturday when the vehicle he was driving went out of control on Belspring Road.
According to Virginia State Police First Sgt. Mike Honaker, the juvenile who was driving the 2008 Hyundai Tiburon was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following the 10:51 p.m. wreck. A juvenile passenger was treated for minor injuries at Pulaski Community Hospital and then released.
The juveniles are not being identified due to their ages and the fact the wreck is still under investigation by Trooper A. W. Crigger. Honaker said charges are pending.
According to Honaker, a preliminary investigation indicates the Hyundai drifted across the center of the roadway, then went out of control when the driver apparently overcorrected in an effort to return it to the proper lane of travel. Overcorrecting apparently caused the car to run off the right side of the road, strike a snow bank, cross a private driveway and then strike a large round bale of hay. At that point, the vehicle spun around, causing the drive’s side to impact with a large tree.
The vehicle was a total loss.
The wreck occurred just south of Rt. 624.
