I was born and raised in Pulaski, actually lived on Mt. Olivet across from the two room school where I attended through the 5th grade. Been in NC since 1955, living near Lexington, NC. I visit “my hometown” as often as possible. I read the on-line Southwest times daily hoping to keep up with family left in Pulaski. I love the NEW version of the paper, and especially read the obits daily. Keeps a bit of “home” in my life reading the news from Pulaski. Would love to see and hear from former school mates. Students of Ms. Jane Adkins, Ms. Blance Whitaker and from Central Elementary 6th grade Ms. Myers, Princpal Mr. Lemonds. Unforuntaly some teachers and students likely to have passed away. Thanks so much for your on-line edition.
I enjoy reading the paper on line and congratulate you on your new format.
As a native and former resident. It is nice to read about the town. The recent book about Pulaski is nice, but it left out some significan evdents like the Virginia Oak fire that devasted a fine business and a good portion of Dora Hiway and Locust Hill.
I also remember the steam engines and the freight trains being made up at night and the trains rumbling through town, so the rebuilding of the passenger station was a very good move.
I have know and been a friend of J.R. Schrader since childhood. A finer person has never lived.
I grew up in Pulaski and have so many beautiful memories of those days. I feel so fortunate to call Pulaski my home. One thing I have enjoyed so much is looking up the old newspapers etc. through your Library Archives. I have found so many things from my high school days, to wedding pictures, just all kind of information. Also my husband, Charles Byrd, wrote a weekly column in the paper for a long time, and I have found many of those as I search the archives. He passed away 8 years ago, but he always loved your newspaper and everything pertaining to Pulaski.
I feel growing up in Pulaski with my loving family and all the great people and friends who were there along the way has helped to guide me through all my life. I feel our school was outstanding, too and some of the most fabulous, gifted teachers anyone could have.
Most of my family has passed away now, but I still get so homesick and would love to visit and just walk around once more all over the town.
Thank you for all that you do to keep all these memories alive. Peace, Mary Nell Byrd, Hershey, Pa.
I grew up in Pulaski and have so many great memories. The many summer days of walking around town with friends, going to the movie theater, Martin’s Pharmacy, and Amar’s store. I enjoy seeing the pictures of the town. I now reside in Louisiana as parents retired here. We often talk about the wonderful people there in Pulaski.
One of your local soldiers has captured my heart.. and if all goes well, I will be in your beautiful little town by May of next year. He is leaving for a tour in Afghanistan and well, fear has left his heart in a quandry. Here’s to hoping he figures it all out! I love your town newspaper. I am coming to visit in April 2012 (perhaps sooner) to check things out and attempt to secure a job and a home (just incase he doesn’t) either way, if you don’t take a leap of faith every once in a while… you just may miss out on the time of your life.. I am hoping and praying to call Pulaski our home soon! God Bless!
I grew up in Pulaski County and I have so many memories of my days living and working in Pulaski. There is no place as beautiful as southwest Virginia.
