Pulaski County High School graduate Daniel Safewright recently was presented with the New River Community Action George Ducker Memorial Scholarship Award at the annual meeting of NRCA Board of Directors.
Safewright was a member of the high school’s baseball team, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He also volunteered with Pulaski County Recreation Department and Cougar Baseball Camp.
Graduating with a 4.1 GPA (grade point average), Safewright will major in engineering this fall at Virginia Tech.
The George Ducker Memorial Scholarship Award is named in memory of the late Rev. George Ducker, pastor of Radford Presbyterian Church, member of the Radford City School Board, and NRCA Board member from 1986 to 1992. The award is presented annually to a New River Valley high school graduate in recognition of outstanding academics, extracurricular activities and community service.
