Tazewell – The Fort Chiswell Pioneers, under new head coach Tom Hale, traveled to Tazewell and came away with wins over Central (Wise) and Carroll County High Schools Friday.
Their first contest saw them beat Central 4 scores to two. The second scrimmage was against Coach Hale’s former squad, the Cavaliers of Carroll County. They scored fives times to the Cavaliers two touchdowns.
The final scrimmage of the night saw the Pioneers and Tazewell tie with one score each.
“I thought Dallas Ward and Davin Odum played real well,” said Coach Hale. “I also thought our offensive line did well.”
Odum did suffer an injury to his shoulder, but at press time it was unknown how severe that injury was. Ethan Warden got nicked up with a hip or groin injury, but it wasn’t suspected to be to bad.
“We got in a lot of work here at Tazewell versus three good teams,” said H
ale. “We have work to do and we have to get in better shape. That’s on me. Overall I’m pleased, but we need to get better defensively. For the first time out it wasn’t too bad.”
The Pioneers will travel this coming Friday to Bristol to take on the John Battle Trojans.
