New River Community College will offer two classes beginning in September: ballroom dancing and cake decorating.
A beginning and intermediate level class for ballroom dancing will begin on Sept. 19 and will be held every Friday evening from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. through Nov. 21. The class is for couples only and the tuition is $44 per person. Beginning students will learn the foxtrot, swing and waltz, The Intermediate class will cover the foxtrot, tango and merengue. Naomi King and Hugh Webb will be the instructors.
Cake decorating will be held on Thursdays, beginning on Sept. 18 through Nov. 20 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Teresa Blankenbeckler will serve as the instructor for the course.
Participants will learn a variety of skills including borders, flowers, basket-weaving, lattice work, drop strings and figure piping. Students will also have the chance to create a character cake, cut-up cake, transfer cake and tiered cake.
Tuition for the cake decorating course is $98 and each student is responsible for purchasing his or her own supplies.
