Labor Day schedules released

Although the last day of summer isn’t until late September, in some respects summer officially comes to an end Monday, with the Labor Day holiday.

Pulaski County school students will have their first holiday break Monday as public schools are closed for Labor Day.

Pulaski County, Dublin and town of Pulaski offices also will be closed Monday, but garbage collection schedules vary between the two local services.

Dublin garbage customers whose garbage normally is picked up on Monday will need to delay setting out their cans until Tuesday. Monday’s garbage will be picked up with Tuesday’s regular collection.

However, if you’re a customer of Pulaski County Public Service Authority (PSA), there will be no change in the garbage collection schedule. Customers on the Monday route should place their garbage at the curb as usual.

The PSA office and its large item drop sites on Bagging Plant Road in Dublin, Mason Street in Fairlawn and Dora Highway in Pulaski will be closed Monday.

Don’t bother to check your mailbox Monday either. Post offices will be closed and mail carriers will not be running routes that day.

Pulaski Area Transit and all area banks also will be closed Monday. There will be no transit service either.

Pulaski County Library System will be closed Saturday, Aug. 30, and Monday, Sept. 1, for Labor Day.

Labor Day is always held the first Monday in September. The holiday was created by the labor movement in honor of the social and economic achievements of American workers.

The first Labor Day was celebrated in New York City Sept. 5, 1882.
