George Washington Fife Jr., 91, of Pulaski, Va., passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 23, 2014, at his daughter and son-in-law’s home, where he resided for the past 15 months. He was born in Lomax, W.Va. on June 21, 1923 and was the son of the late George Washington Fife Sr. and Lydia Agnes Bean Fife. He also was preceded in death by his three sisters, Juanita Humphreys, Nancy Smith and JoAnn Gibson. Prior to his daughter’s home he resided at the Virginia Veterans Care Center, Salem, Va. for eight years. Mr. Fife was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie Dooley Fife; children and spouses, Debi S. Fife Walden, James Larry Fife, Vickie L. Fife Hunt and Tommy Hunt, Donna K. Fife Bullion and Paul “Allen” Bullion Jr., George W. Fife; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Sizemore officiating. A graveside service will be held at noon from the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Va., with the Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. The family will be meeting Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home.
