With the recent unseasonably cool weather, it may not seem like the dog days of summer.
Nonetheless, Pulaski County Humane Society is hoping a good turnout for its upcoming “Dog Day Afternoon” dog and car wash fundraiser will help save the organization and its efforts to help homeless animals.
“We’ve had an outpour(ing) of community support and many fantastic ideas for fundraisers,” humane society Executive Director Candice Simmons said, referring to a recent announcement it might have to close its doors due to insufficient funds.
“The community believes in our mission and wants us to remain open. We are working like mad to save this organization,” she said,
The group held a car and dog wash at Advance Auto in Pulaski earlier this summer. “We raised the coffers quite a bit back in June …, Simmons said. “We are hoping for a great turnout again.”
The Dog Day Afternoon car and dog wash will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 5009 Alum Spring Road.
Humane society staff and volunteers will be on hand to wash both dogs and cars. Donations are welcome. All proceeds benefit the nonprofit humane society’s animal welfare mission.
