The Community Health Center of the New River Valley received an $85,000 donation from the New River Valley Health Foundation.
The donation will help support the Center’s programs which include primary health and dental care, behavioral health care and medication assistance services, according to Michelle Brauns, the Community Health Center’s CEO.
“We are very grateful to the Foundation’s Board of Directors for their continued support of our mission,” states Brauns. “The Health Foundation is a valued partner and has always demonstrated a strong belief in our efforts to provide accessible health care to everyone in our community, regardless of age, income, or insurance status.”
The Center transitioned to the Community Health Center model in January 2014. Since then, it has seen a tremendous increase in patients and patient visits, Brauns said.
The Center has also expanded both staff and services to accommodate the increase. Part of this expansion has included a full-time social worker providing psychotherapy and enhanced dental services, which include low-cost crowns, bridges, partials and dentures.
Under the new model, a wide range of ages are now served, including children and seniors. A pediatric-focused dentist provides specialized dental care to children ages three and up.
According to Brauns, The mission of the Community Health Center of the New River Valley is to provide affordable and high quality medical, dental, behavioral and preventive health services to people of all ages and circumstances, regardless of ability to pay or insurance status.
