The American Red Cross has several blood drives scheduled leading up to Labor Day. Due to the summer months, blood donations have been on the decline and Red Cross would like the public to know that there is still time to donate and make a difference in the lives of patients this summer.
Red Cross will be at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1946 Medallion Drive in Pulaski, Monday, Aug, 25, from noon until 6 p.m. The following day, they will be taking blood donations at the Muse Banquet Hall, 1 Tyler Ave. in Radford, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Other area blood drives include Fort Chiswell United Methodist Church, 771 Fort Chiswell Road in Max Meadows, Friday, Aug. 22, from noon until 5:30 p.m. and West End United Methodist Church, 1030 W. North St. in Wytheville, Wednesday, Aug. 27, from noon until 6 p.m.
All types of blood are needed, however, there is a more urgent need for donors with blood types O negative, B negative and A negative. Individuals must be 17 years of age or older, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health to donate. A blood donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
