The award for “Carrier of the Year” was given to DASH Transportation President and CEO David Perkins. David Kause, regional transportation manager for Blue Ridge Gatorade, presented Perkins with the award at the monthly meeting of the board of directors of the Joint Industrial Development Authority of Wythe County in the Wytheville Town Council chambers on July 24.
Kause commented, “DASH Transportation represents the best of what a carrier can do and it’s especially fulfilling to be able to award a local carrier this accolade.”
DASH Transportation exceeded many of the criteria Quaker/Gatorade uses to determine its Carrier of the Year. Primary among those is service. DASH achieved on-time service for Blue Ridge Gatorade at a 98.24 percent rate and provided electronic delivery confirmation 100 percent of the time. Other considerations include a carrier’s drop trailer pool stability, ability to handle business surges, and continued “above and beyond” performance.
“David and Sherry Perkins have built an efficient, successful operation with hard work and today’s recognition is a testament to that,” agreed JIDA Board Chairman Linda DiYorio. “Congratulations to DASH on this significant achievement.”
DASH delivered almost 800 customer loads from Blue Ridge Gatorade in 2013, 125 in-bound loads to Blue Ridge Gatorade from suppliers, and handled additional plant-to-plant transfer loads for the organization.
In accepting the award, David Perkins drew attention to his employees: “It’s really the drivers that have done the hard work and gotten the job done.”
David Manley, executive director of the JIDA, said, “Our area citizens should be proud that a home-grown company can achieve the kind of performance and quality DASH Transportation has demonstrated in its work with Blue Ridge Gatorade.”
