New River Community College will offer additional sessions of its popular “boot camp” series of computer skills workshops beginning Aug. 12.
The workshops, to be held on the Dublin campus, include basic computer skills, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Dr. Jeanne Symanoskie, NRCC corporate trainer, instructs each workshop.
“Making the Most of Your PC: Introduction,” scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 12, 9 a.m. to noon, helps participants become more comfortable with the operating system environment. Participants will learn to manage files, navigate the Internet and download files and images. Essential computing components, terminology, tips and tricks for email and how to save and send files will also be discussed. The cost is $10.
“Microsoft Excel Boot Camp” teaches the use of spreadsheets in the business and home to organize everything from invoices and projects to fantasy football leagues and kids’ schedules. Key elements including creating, editing and saving worksheets and workbooks, entering labels and values, formatting text and data and using basic Excel functions will be discussed. The workshop costs $29.95 and will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m. to noon.
“Microsoft Word Boot Camp” will be Thursday, Aug. 14, 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will be guided through opening, editing and saving documents and templates, performing editing tasks such as copy and paste, and performing basic formatting functions. This workshop also costs $29.95.
