A new assistant principal is joining the ranks at Riverlawn Elementary School in Fairlawn. Patricia Betteken, a former third grade teacher for the school, will be stepping into her new position this fall.
Betteken moved to Virginia in 1996 with her husband, Joe, and three sons, Jeff, Mike and Joey. She worked as a Para-professional at Riverlawn while she completed her Liberal Arts Degree, graduating from Radford University in 2000. She continued working as a Para-professional at Riverlawn while attending the University of Virginia at the Higher Education Center in Roanoke.
Betteken received her teaching license in 2004. She taught Kindergarten her first year at Riverlawn and then moved to teaching the third grade. She continued her education completing course work and graduated with her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Virginia.
Betteken then completed the Leadership Program from Radford University getting her endorsement for Administration K-12. In 2010, she worked as the School Improvement Coach at Dublin Elementary School. She then returned to Riverlawn and continued teaching in the third grade.
