This Sunday marks the last service the Rev. Terry Bowden will preach as pastor of Fairlawn Church of God.
Bowden came to the church in September 2008, according to the Rev. Marcus Harrison, minister of music at the church.
“He truly had a pastor’s heart,” said Harrison. “He was full of compassion and love, and everything he did was done with such love and care. If he ever told you ‘I love you and I’m praying for you,’ we knew it was something that he meant from his heart, because he showed it in every action and deed. He exemplified the Scripture found in 1 John 3:18 which reads, ‘Let us not love with tongue and words but in action and in truth.’”
Harrison said Bowden is retiring to his wife Mary Lou Cox Bowden’s home place in Cleveland, Tenn., which is also where the Church of God headquarters are located, along with Lee University where he attended school.
