ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Ollie Elizabeth Collins Hearn, age 86, of Rocky Mount, N.C., and formerly of Pulaski, Va., died peacefully with her sons by her side Wednesday, June 4, 2014 in Rocky Mount, N.C. She was born on June 11, 1927 in Pounding Mill, Va., and was the daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Nunley Collins and Sanders Bentley Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Herbert Hearn Sr.; her stepfather, Ervin Price Wells, and brothers, Sanders Bentley Collins and James Oscar Collins. Elizabeth was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a passion for gardening and was formerly a member of Englewood Garden Club. She was also a former member of Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church. Her generosity to others was a tribute to her love for all.
She is survived by her sons, James (Jim) Herbert Hearn Jr. and his wife, Betsy, of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Jerry Sanders Hearn and his wife Shirley of Rocky Mount, N.C.; two grandchildren, Chad Hearn and wife, Kim, of Red Oak, N.C. and Jenny Alford of Rocky Mount, N.C.; along with three great-grandchildren, Chase and Kaylee Hearn and Grace Alford.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, June 8 at Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski, Va. at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends after the services at the funeral home. The family is so thankful to the staff at Hunter Hills Nursing and rehabilitation for their support during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or a charity of your choice.
