An Oct. 9 trial date has been set for a former teacher accused of having sex with a student.

Jonathan Edward Bell, 31, of Salem, is to be tried by a jury, according to online court records. Jury selection is set to begin at 9 a.m.

Bell is charged with six counts each of carnal knowledge of a child and taking indecent liberties with a child under the age of 15. He is a former Dublin Middle School teacher and was working as an assistant principal at Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Roanoke when he was arrested.

Pulaski County Sheriff Jim Davis said earlier this year that two of the carnal knowledge and one of the indecent liberties charges originated from a complaint filed by a Pulaski County student. The incidents allegedly occurred while Bell was employed within the local school system, from 2006-2012.

Additional charges were returned by a Pulaski County grand jury in April.

Bell is being held without bond at New River Valley Regional Jail.
