A former cheerleading coach received a 10-year suspended sentence Thursday after pleading no contest to embezzling funds from the squad.
Under a plea agreement with the prosecution, two of three counts of embezzlement were nolle prosequi (not prosecuted with the option to re-file) and Angelia Paige Harrell, without admitting guilt, didn’t contest evidence would be sufficient to result in a conviction on one count.
Special prosecutor Erin DeHart, Bland County’s commonwealth’s attorney, said the theft was essentially one continuous act of embezzlement, so two of the counts were not prosecuted.
