Concrete debris knocked from an Interstate 81 bridge overpass by an over height truck injured a Hawaii woman Monday.
According to Virginia State Police First Sgt. Mike Honaker, 46-year-old Beth Yos of Kailua, Hawaii received minor injuries when concrete debris from the bridge burst through the windshield of a 2014 Chrysler mini-van in which she was a front seat passenger. The driver of the van, Thomas Yos, 46, of Kailua, and an 8-year-old backseat passenger were not injured.
Honaker said the mini-van was northbound on the interstate behind a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer hauling a trailer loaded with military construction equipment. As the truck passed under the overpass at Exit 92 in Draper, equipment on the trailer struck the overpass, causing pieces of concrete to break loose and strike the van, according to State Police.
