A Wythe County depot and a Montgomery County school are among seven buildings and sites recently added to the Virginia Landmarks Register.
Rural Retreat Depot in Wythe County, Prices Fork Elementary School in Montgomery County and two of the school’s neighboring houses were added to the register by Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) June 19.
While being placed on the register doesn’t place restrictions on how the owner can use the property, it does open the door for historic rehabilitation tax credits for improvements. To receive tax credits, however, certain conditions must be met so that the project complies with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
