SMYTH COUNTY — A Wythe County woman was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Route 11 in Smyth County.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said Carrie L. Stewart, 51, of Rural Retreat, was southbound on Route 11 when her 2003 PT Cruiser crossed the centerline, striking a 2002 Jaguar XJ8 head-on.

Stewart died at the scene of the 7:47 a.m. wreck, less than a mile from Old Tannery Road. Her 7-year-old grandson sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Bristol Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the Jaguar, Phillip Gullion, 51, and his passenger, Elizabeth A. Gullion, 35, both of Atkins, also were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

All wreck victims were wearing seatbelts, Geller said.

The investigation is continuing.
