Va. Tech student’s safety app launched at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — A new mobile app created by a survivor of the Virginia Tech shootings in 2007 is being launched at West Virginia University.

Called LiveSafe App, it provides students, faculty and visitors a way to report safety concerns or potential threats. The app is already being used at around 10 campuses across the country.

A user of the app can make an anonymous tip using various platforms to report a suspicious act, call campus police in an emergency, or view a map of Morgantown with the latest information on crimes. The App is free.

WVU says the app was created by Kristina Anderson. Thirty-two students and faculty were killed in the Virginia Tech rampage. Some complained the Blacksburg, Virginia, campus was not alerted to the threat on timely basis.
