Wildwood Park in Radford will become a natural lecture hall for the third year in a row, as the park’s outdoor classroom will be utilized for the city’s 2014 Summer Nature Series.
The series is set to take place all summer long from June to August every other Thursday at 7:30 p.m., just before dusk. The Summer Nature Series will feature presentations from various local naturalists and photographers to the backdrop of the park’s living inhabitants.
The first night of the series will feature Jackson Means from Virginia Tech’s Department of Entomology speaking about fireflies on Thursday, June 12. During this lecture, Means will allow the audience to observe and encounter the mating displays of fireflies, showing their choreographed light shows individually and in mass, as well as the predators that entrap them using the same methods.
