Many in the Fort Chiswell sporting circle were concerned when former Head Coach Stephen James departed for Pulaski County. Those fears were put to rest late Thursday evening as the new head coaches was announced.
The Pioneers will be under the leadership of former Pulaski County assistant coach and Carroll County head coach Tommy Hale.
Coach Hale resigned as the head coach of the Cavaliers at the end of the 2013 season, his fifteenth year as their leader. He leaves Carroll County with the most wins of any coach in the programs history.
The Pioneers finished last season with a 12-2 record. They lost a 19-14 nail biter to Graham High School during the regular season, and then fell to Essex High School 38-13 in the State Semi-finals.
Prior to landing at Carroll County, Hale was an assistant coach under former Cougar Head Coach Joel Hicks. His first head coaching job was as the leader of the Dublin Middle School Dukes. His first coaching job was as an assistant coach at Big Creek High School in War, WV.
The Pioneers are members of the Group 1A West Conference 46, and are aligned with the old Mountain Empire District. The current Conference alignment of the Pioneers will put them in playoff competition with George Wythe, Radford, Galax, Auburn, Rural Retreat, Narrows, Bland, Patrick Henry – Glade Springs, and 16 other schools.
