Virginia State Police has identified the injured passengers in a fatal car crash that occurred on Route 460 in Giles County Monday evening.
According to State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller, the driver and two of the three passengers in the 1994 Jeep Wrangler were ejected during the 11:35 p.m. wreck. It was earlier reported that all passengers were ejected.
The Jeep’s driver, Linda M. Hilton, 32, of Newport, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, Geller said. She said the front seat passenger, 17-year-old Callie J. Eanes, and a backseat passenger, Oren L. Price, 28, both unrestrained, were ejected from the vehicle during the wreck. They were transported to a hospital for treatment of “serious” injuries.
Eight-year-old Michael L. Price, who was seated behind Hilton, was restrained with a shoulder belt. He was not ejected from the Jeep and sustained only minor injuries, Geller said.
According to the accident report, Hilton was driving east on Route 460 when her Jeep ran off the right side of the road. Hilton overcorrected, sending the vehicle across both eastbound lanes and off the left side of the road. When Hilton overcorrected a second time, Geller said, the Jeep overturned, ejecting all of the adults.
The wreck remains under investigation.
