“Is he employed or not?” a Pulaski County judge asked Thursday in the case of a Hiwassee man facing probation revocations on two drug distribution convictions.
Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Marcus Long Jr. pointed out that a financial form Benjamin Lewis Bennett filled out to obtain a court appointed attorney indicated Bennett is unemployed. However, Bennett petitioned the court for bond Thursday, saying he has a job if he can get out of jail.
Long noted that defendants can be charged with perjury for falsely claiming to be unemployed in order to obtain a court-appointed attorney.
