Last night Josh Kaufman, a native of Blacksburg, won Season 6 of the hit television show, “The Voice.” Kaufman’s win marked the first ever “Voice” win by Team Usher. Kaufman made his way to the top with his soulful, emotionally driven renditions of popular music.
The win is a huge milestone for the 38-year-old father of three, whose lifelong dream has been to become a career musician.
The show concluded with viewers having to decide the winner by voting online, by phone, text or by purchasing an iTunes copy of one of the performer’s songs.
An iTunes glitch caused Kaufman’s song in the album category rather than its correct listing in the song category.
Show host Carson Daly announced Tuesday that because of the glitch, the iTunes votes from the 14-hour voting period after Monday’s show would not be considered when tallying the final results.
Kaufman has the chance to participate in the show’s 31-city summer tour, which starts June 21 and includes a June 30 stop in Charlotte, North Carolina, along with the release of his song and a recording contract.
