A Pulaski County man told police he was present when a co-defendant committed a murder in Parrott in 2012, but it will be up to a jury to determine the man’s level of involvement, if any.
Testimony got underway Wednesday in the case of Matthew Ernest Arnold, 23. He is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the September 2012 death of Stephen Harrison Bane, and with arson for allegedly burning a home where Bane was living.
Bane would have been 52 today, his brother said.
According to evidence presented Wednesday, police found Bane’s body inside a vacant home off Creek Road Sept. 27, 2012 — two days after Bane’s residence off Parrott Mountain Road was destroyed by fire. Bane’s family at first feared he had died in the fire, but a search for his remains turned up no body.
