A Radford man is in fair condition after being injured when his moped collided head-on with a car Wednesday night.
According to Capt. Jeff Saunders with Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Vernon Ray Martin sustained life-threatening injuries in the 7:01 p.m. crash on Old Route 11, about half a mile south of the intersection of Route 11.
Martin was transported by REMSI to New River Valley Medical Center, then airlifted to Roanoke Memorial, according to Saunders. Eric Earnhardt, Carilion spokesman, said Martin was in fair condition at the Roanoke hospital Thursday.
Martin was traveling south on Old Route 11 when his moped veered into the northbound lane, striking head-on a 2013 Ford Sedan driven by Deana Estep of Dublin, Saunders said. Estep and her passenger received only minor injuries.
Deputy L.A. Nester is continuing the investigation. Fairlawn Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
