Medicare telemarketing scam frequent in NRV

Numerous Medicare beneficiaries across the New River Valley have been receiving fraudulent telemarketing calls, as reported to the New River Valley Agency on Aging.

The Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) released a warning about the recent scam. Susan Johnson, the project manager for SMP, said only a handful of people have reported the fraudulent calls, and that telemarketing scams like this usually go area to area.

“We were concerned that the smaller amount might represent those that were reporting, and there might be many more that had not thought to call and report it,” said Johnson.
