Research indicates that quality child care aids in a child’s development giving them the skills to succeed during their school years. Child care providers are an essential element of quality childcare. Licensed childcare providers are required to obtain continuing education each year to maintain certification. Virginia Cooperative Extension, New River Community College and Smart Beginnings NRV VA Star Quality Initiative (VSQI) teamed together to provide a conference for Early Childhood Professionals.
On April 5, 101 child care providers received six hours of instruction on a variety of topics during the “For the Love of Children” workshop held at New River Community College. There were 12 family center-based providers, 71 center-based providers and nine other child care providers (church, Christian, preschools, etc.) represented. Anne Simmerman, Sherry Townsend, and Kayla Smith from the Early Learning Center at New River Community College provided the welcome, presenters’ introductions and concluded the program.
