Attempt to withdraw from case called ‘ploy’

An attorney’s attempt to withdraw from a case the day before trial was denied Thursday.

“I’m not buying it. I think this is just a ploy to get (the case) continued. We’re going ahead at 9 a.m. (Friday),” Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Marcus Long Jr. told defense attorney Thomas Debusk. “You’ve been his council of choice for 14 months. It’s not appropriate to ask to change it the day before trial.”

Daniel Wayne Conner, 51, of Radford was supposed to be tried by jury Friday on one count of driving after being declared a habitual offender, one count of possession of cocaine and four counts of child abuse or neglect.
