The Dublin field office of Virginia State Police will sponsor another blood drive Thursday, March 27, from noon until 6 p.m. to help boost area blood supplies.
“We started hosting these blood drives with Virginia Blood Services (VBS) this past year after realizing there was a shortage of blood in our area,” said Virginia State Police First Sgt. Mike Honaker.
He added, “In law enforcement, we often see the immediate need for blood and blood products following serious automobile crashes or violent crimes. And then, living in a small community, we hear about serious illnesses of people who most of us know and who desperately need blood as part of their ongoing treatment.”
Honaker said VBS is now the sole provider of blood for Veteran’s Administration hospitals in Salem and Hampton, as well as the one in Beckley, W.Va., so “This is a great way to express our appreciation and gratitude to our veterans and wounded warriors.”
Each blood donation has the potential of saving three lives, according to VBS.
The blood drive will be held at the State Police field office at the corner of Route 100 and Bagging Plant Road in Dublin.
