Artists as well as those interested in needlework will want to check out New River Community College’s latest art show in Godbey Hall.
The quilt-focused show features the works of Marjorie Martin, a Dublin mother and grandmother who started quilting in 2004. Martin believes “quilting is more of an art than just keeping you warm.”
The show runs through May 15 and a meet-the-artist reception will be held Friday, March 28, at noon in the gallery.
Martin’s works include quilts, table runners, wall hangings, handbags, pincushions, potholders and quilted Christmas balls that she makes for herself and others. She also is a life coach and support specialist for the Office of Transitional Programs at NRCC’s New River Valley Mall site in Christiansburg.
The art gallery is open Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1-5 p.m., and Fridays, 9-1 p.m.
