Nonprofit organizations, as well as businesses, may want to check out workshops scheduled this spring as part of New River Community College’s “Sharper Skills Seminars” program.

Four workshops covering topics such as team building, Microsoft Office Specialist and the iPad, will be held during March. NRCC corporate trainer Jeanne Symanoskie instructs each workshop at NRCC’s New River Valley Mall campus in Christiansburg.

Each seminar is $20.

“Team Building” addresses the team concept and factors that make it a success. The four phases of team development will be discussed, along with activities a business can use for team building. The seminar will be held Monday, March 17, 2-4 p.m. in room 134 in Christiansburg.

Those interested in receiving certification for Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) should sign up for “MOS Certification Prep: Word” and “MOS Certification Prep: Excel.” Workshops review core concepts of Word and Excel in preparation for the MOS exams.

The “Word” workshop addresses document properties, paragraph settings, manipulating graphics and mail merge. “Excel” topics include AutoFill, formatting, page layout, charts and conditional formatting.

“MOS Certification Prep: Word” will be held Wednesday, March 19, 3-5 p.m., in room 127. “MOS Certification Prep: Excel” is Tuesday, March 25, 9-11 a.m., in room 128.

“Going Further with iPad,” will take users beyond the basics of their Apple mobile device to learn multitasking, push notifications, childproofing, grouping apps and pairing Bluetooth devices. This workshop is held Thursday, March 17, 9-11 a.m., in room 135.
