Virginia State Police say a tractor-trailer that jackknifed due to icy roads late Tuesday sparked a chain-reaction of crashes that briefly shut down a section of Interstate 81 in Pulaski County.
According to spokeswoman Corinne Geller, State Police responded to a series of chain-reaction crashes near mile marker 104 in the northbound lanes of the interstate “due to slick road conditions.”
The events started around 11:30 p.m. when the tractor-trailer jackknifed into the median. Geller said that wreck sparked at least three other crashes. The truck was cleared from the interstate by 12:08 a.m. Wednesday.
Geller said Virginia Department of Transportation was notified that the interstate had turned icy. Once the lanes had been treated, traffic was allowed to resume by 12:30 a.m.
No injuries were reported as a result of the crashes.
