A section of Interstate 81 in Pulaski County had to be shut down late Tuesday when ice formed on the northbound lanes, causing multiple wrecks.
According to radio traffic, Virginia State Police called for assistance from Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office to stop traffic after a series of wrecks were reported at mile markers 99.7, 100.1 and 100.3 around 11:30.
Emergency services were reporting the northbound lanes to be a “solid sheet of ice.”
Details of the incidents were not available at press time Wednesday morning.
Virginia Department of Transportation also was reporting delays due to tractor trailer wrecks at the 109 and 112 mile markers.
