Holiday Lake Forestry Camp will be held June 16-21 at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center near Appomattox.

This camp is hosted by the Virginia Department of Forestry, with support and cooperation from other conservation agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals.

According to a news release from the Virginia Department of Forestry, campers will be able to experience hands-on learning about Virginia’s wildlife habitats. That includes tree identification, timber harvesting, reforestation, environmental protection and more.

Campers will also take part in field trips, exploratory classes, outdoor recreation and a Lumberjack Field Day.

Forestry Camp is open to Virginia residents 13-16 years old who have good academic standing, an interest in natural resources, and have not attended Forestry Camp before. Teachers, natural resource professionals and others working with youth may make nominations for the camp.

Financial sponsorship is provided by forest industries, conservation agencies, associations and individuals. As a result, every camper selected to attend receives a scholarship and pays only $85 to attend the weeklong residential camp.

According to the release, new sponsors are always welcome.

To nominate a camper, visit the VDOF website: dof.virginia.gov/camp/. Nominations are due by April 11. For more information, please contact Dennis Anderson at 540-745-2616 or dennis.anderson@dof.virginia.gov.
