The engine of a pickup truck caught fire Friday following a gas fill-up at the Wilco-Hess on East Main Street in Pulaski.
The driver of the 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, owned by Hot Wheels on East Main Street, had just refueled and pulled away from the gas pumps when its engine malfunctioned, according to Pulaski Fire Department Capt. Robbie Kiser. The engine burst into flames, but no one was injured and Kiser said the fire never posed any threat to the gas pumps.
As a precaution, the gas pumps were taken out of service until the fire was contained, which took about 10 minutes, according to Kiser.
One piece of equipment and nine personnel from the fire department responded to the 1:40 p.m. call. Kiser said the truck’s engine compartment was heavily involved in flames when they arrived on the scene.
About 200 gallons of water was used to extinguish the blaze. The fire department cleared the scene a little after 3 p.m.
