Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has set aside $8,566 to be distributed to eligible emergency food and shelter programs in Pulaski County, but the deadline to apply is Feb. 5.

According to Pulaski County United Way (PCUW) Director Susan Dalrymple, the funds will be distributed based on the recommendation of a local board comprised of representatives from PCUW, Virginia Department of Social Services, Red Cross, county government and local organizations.

Local governmental or private voluntary organizations are eligible to apply. Applicants also must:

•Be registered as a nonprofit organization.

•Have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit.

•Practice nondiscrimination.

•Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter services.

•Be governed by a volunteer board of directors.

For further information on how to apply for FEMA funds, contact Dalrymple 980-2537 by Feb. 5, 2014.

The amount of funding a county receives is based on its unemployment rate. The money is intended to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.
