When you’re hot, you’re hot!
The New River Community College Knights men’s basketball team travelled this past Friday to play the JV squad from Southern Virginia University.
The Knights came away with an astounding victory, winning 109-76 to bring their latest winning streak to three games in a row, and improve their record to 17-6 on the season
In a game that featured the entirety of their roster, New River jumped out of the gates early on thanks to some good defense and some even better rebounding. NRCC got on top of SVU from the very start and just never looked back.
Coach Lamar Martin was very pleased with the winning effort his squad put forth but was very quick to talk about the team’s next game. “Everybody got to play tonight and we had a lot of fun. We’re going to enjoy this one tonight, but tomorrow it is back to work to get ready for Roanoke College,” Coach Martin said. “Coach Martin was also very thankful after the game. “I just want to say that I couldn’t do any of this with God, my family, my friends and our college,” Martin said.
Chris Dobbins was the top performer on the evening, going for a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Jeff Akins also had a great night, flirting with a triple-double, scoring 13 points, while recording 8 rebounds and 6 steals on the night. Ryan Crowe scored 17 points on the night, and was also the leading passer for NRCC with 4 assists.
The Knights will be back in action today as they hit the road to take on Roanoke College’s JV team at 12 p.m.
