NRCC offering building contractor licensing course

If you’re interested in the building contractor field, New River Community College will be offering an eight-hour licensing course on the Dublin campus March 1.

Board of Contractors laws, state building codes and underground utilities, types of licenses, qualifications for contractors, standards of practice, how to avoid violating regulations, employment law, worker’s compensation, taxes and business structures will be addressed during the course.

Dr. Dan Trent, a licensed Class A building contractor in Virginia, will teach the course, which is recognized by Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation’s Board for Contractors. He has more than 20 years experience teaching in public school, community college and university settings.

The course costs $198, including textbook, and will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
