Hannah Altizer wins Pulaski County Spelling Bee

Dublin Middle School student Hannah Altizer was named champion for the Pulaski County Spelling Bee.

The Bee was held Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. in the Board Room of the County Administration Building. The participants included contestants from Riverlawn Elementary, Dublin Elementary, Pulaski Elementary, Snowville Elementary, Critzer Elementary, Dublin Middle and Pulaski Middle.

Each of the participants had won the spelling bee at their school. According to a news release from Pulaski County Public Schools, the competition consisted of a total of nine rounds.

Altizer won the bee when she correctly spelled the word “cilantro.” The runner-up was Pulaski Middle School student Meagan Cox.

Altizer will compete in the Regional Spelling Bee sponsored by The Roanoke Times on Saturday, March 22. If she wins the Regional Spelling Bee, Altizer could move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
